In the 1950s, driven by a passion for coffee, José Caetano planted around 5,000 coffee trees. Unfortunately, due to low yields, the coffee cultivation was discontinued. It wasn’t until 2001 that Manassés’ father, Artesio Sampaio Dias, decided to revive coffee farming on the property.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThis year, our buyer Josh visited the farm. During the tasting session, this coffee stood out for its dense body. In that same year, Manassés took part in regional competitions and achieved positive results. The collaboration with SMC has not only facilitated access to the international market but also enabled the promotion of high-quality coffees.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 id=\"harvest-and-post-harvest-\"\u003eHarvest and post-harvest:\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCareful agronomic management, through to processing and post-harvest means that the vast majority of the lots produced are of higher quality. The harvest runs from July to September, beginning at the ideal stage of ripeness. Coffee cherries are transported daily, being separated by plot, variety, and time of crop.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eProcessing and drying\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe main processing method is natural sun-dried. Cherries are dried whole with the use of suspended beds to guarantee a slower and even drying.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 id=\"about-our-partners-\"\u003eAbout our partners:\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eWe've procured this coffee through SMC, a company dedicated to sourcing specialty coffees with a keen focus on the well-being of farmers' families. They prioritise transparent and solid partnerships, actively engaging in processes by providing technical support, aiding in harvest and post-harvest planning, introducing innovative projects, and creating informative audiovisual material, among other initiatives.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 id=\"impact-\"\u003eImpact:\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOver a decade ago, the farm initiated a significant reduction in agrochemical use, opting for less frequent applications of agricultural defensive products annually.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThrough careful natural vegetation management and strategic afforestation alongside the coffee crops, the environment has been optimised for heightened productivity, reduced costs, and improved environmental sustainability.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCurrently, the farm is actively participating in a program that promotes the adoption of Regenerative and Conservation Agriculture, aligning with global efforts to address climate change impacts.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDespite its modest size, Três Barras recognizes its social responsibility within the local community. It provides partners and collaborators with fair employment conditions, ensuring good pay and a positive working environment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRecently, the farm has embraced the \"From Seed to Cup\" concept.
